    Habit
    Ericoid shrub up to 2 m. high, erect, virgate, dioecious.
    Branches
    Branches rigid, erect, densely antrorsely villous when young, the outer bark tending to flake off.
    Leaves
    Leaves trifoliolate (rarely unifoliolate by suppression of the lateral leaflets), usually densely arranged on short shoots; leaflets up to 9 x 0·6 mm., linear, obtuse at apex, rigid, glabrous, rather thick with thickened margins, apparently very stoutly 1-nerved; stipules triangular, scarious, usually densely villous on the abaxial surface.
    Stamens
    Stamens always 4.
    Stigma
    Stigma 1, almost sessile.
