    Habit
    Perennial herb with (5–)20–100 decumbent to suberect stems from a woody usually multi-headed rootstock; stems 4–20 cm. long or tall, strongly 4-ribbed, glabrous or with traces of minute emergences.
    Leaves
    Leaf-blades narrowly to broadly elliptic or oblong-elliptic, 0.6–2.1 cm. long, 1–8 mm. wide, rounded or obscurely acute at the apex, narrowed into the stipule-sheath or very short petiole at the base, entirely glabrous save for some minute hairs on the margins; petiole ± obsolete or apparently up to 1 mm. long; stipule-base 1–2 mm. long, bearing 3–5 fimbriae 0.5–2 mm. long.
    Flowers
    Flowers in small terminal and axillary clusters at the upper nodes, (3–)4–5 mm. in diameter.
    Calyx
    Calyx-tube obconic, 1 mm. long; lobes 4, sometimes with additional narrow ones (or abnormally ± 10), oblong, 0.8–0.9 mm. long.
    Corolla
    Corolla white; tube 0.5 mm. long; lobes oblong-triangular, 1 mm. long, 0.8 mm. wide.
    Anthers
    Anthers just protruding beyond the sinuses.
    Pistil
    Stigma minute, together with the style 0.4 mm. long.
    Fruits
    Capsule oblong in outline, 2 mm. long, 1.9 mm. wide, 1.2 mm. thick.
    Seeds
    Seed 1/2-ellipsoid, 1.8 mm. long, 1 mm. wide, 0.4–0.5 mm. thick.
    Habitat
    Grassland, grassland with scattered trees ( Combretum, etc.), open woodland of Acacia lahai, Syzygium and Erythrina, also by roadsides and in rocky places, usually coming up after burning; 1440–2340 m.
