    Habit
    Straggling shrub or small tree up to 5 m. high, with elongate whippy upper twigs.
    Branches
    Young branchlets densely pubescent.
    Stipules
    Stipules not spinescent.
    Prickles
    Prickles just below each node, usually blackish, up to 7.5 mm. long, in threes or occasionally solitary, the central one hooked downwards, the laterals curved upwards or sometimes nearly straight.
    Leaves
    Leaves:petiole glandular, 2–11 mm. long including the pubescent eglandular rhachis; pinnae 1–2(–3) pairs; leaflets 7–15 pairs, 3–9 mm. long, 1.5–3 mm. wide, obliquely oblong or elliptic-oblong, glabrous to somewhat pubescent, rounded to acute or mucronulate at apex, lateral nerves (other than minute basal ones) not visible beneath.
    Flowers
    Flowers cream or lemon, sessile or nearly so, in spikes 4–9 cm. long on peduncles about 0.5–1.2 cm. long.
    Calyx
    Calyx 3.5–4.5 mm. long, glabrous.
    Corolla
    Corolla 6.5–7 mm. long, 5-lobed, glabrous outside.
    Stamens
    Stamen-filaments 13–15 mm. long, free; anthers 0.2 mm. across, with a very caducous apical gland.
    Ovary
    Ovary glabrous; stipe very short.
    Fruits
    Pods (Fig. 14/20, p. 52) yellow-brown or brown when ripe, dehiscent, puberulous, oblong, straight or nearly so, venose, coriaceous, subacute to acuminate at apex, 5–10 cm. long, 1–2.3 cm. wide.
    Seeds
    Seeds ± subcircular-lenticular, 10–12 mm. diam.; central areole large, 6–9 × 5–6 mm., markedly impressed, ± pointed at top.
    Habitat
    Dry scrub with trees; said to be on lava and limestone; altitude range uncertain, recorded at 620 m.
