    Ecology
    Confined to maquis, on ultramafic substrates, from 200 – 900 m, in a handful of localities in southern Grande Terre (Mt Pénari, Ngoye, Montagne des Sources, Rivière des Lacs, Creek Pernod).
    Conservation
    Jaffré et al. (1998) considered Jaffrea erubescens (as Alphitonia erubescens) to be Vulnerable (VU) according to the criteria of the IUCN (2001).
