    Aquatic annual herb up to 34 cm high.

    Stems erect, slender, simple or sparingly branched

    Basal leaves oblong-ovate, ± 7 mm long (see note below), 3 mm wide, sessile, apex obtuse; cauline leaves ovate, scale-like, acute

    Inflorescence a lax fewflowered raceme

    Bracts minute.

    Pedicels 4–5 mm long
    Calyx
    Calyx campanulate, ± 3 mm long, minutely pubescent or scaly, teeth 1 mm long, mucronate with hyaline margins

    Corolla deep mauve with a white to pale pink throat; corolla tube narrowly cylindric, 11–13 mm long, ± dilated and curved under the limb, upper lip shortly bilobed ± 6 mm long
    Fruits
    Capsule ovoid, ± 4.5 mm long

    Seeds oblong, 1 mm long, narrow, reticulate.

    In temporary pools on granite outcrops; 1100–1400 m

    Chandler 808 bears the field note: leaves are only 1–1? inches (25–30? mm) long and scarce. No leaves are present on any herbarium specimens except on the type.
