    Habit
    Shrub up to 5 m. tall; branches pubescent at first but soon glabrous.
    Leaves
    Leaf-lamina 2–10 × 1·5–7·5 cm., broadly ovate, apex acuminate, margin dentate or crenate, base cordate, 7–9-nerved, tomentellous on both sides, dark green above, pale below, veins prominent below; petiole up to 6 cm. long, slender, with short stellate hairs and longer simple hairs or glabrescent; stipules 8–9 × 0·5–1 mm., linear, tomentellous, ciliate at the margins and apex.
    Flowers
    Flowers pink, in axillary usually 3–5-flowered subumbellate cymes; peduncle and pedicels with an indumentum similar to that of the young branches, peduncles up to 7 cm. long; bracts 6–8 × 2 mm., lanceolate, acute, tomentellous.
    Calyx
    Calyx-lobes 1·6–1·9 × 0·4 cm., lanceolate-acuminate, tomentellous outside.
    Corolla
    Petals ± equal in length to the sepals, obliquely obovate.
    Androecium
    Stamens connate below for c. 2 mm.; staminodes c. 1 cm. long, linear, glabrous.
    Pistil
    Ovary ovoid, tomentose or densely pilose; loculi pubescent inside; ovules 4 per loculus; style 0·9–1·2 cm. long, pilose, at least below; stigmas recurved.
    Fruits
    Capsule c. 1·2 × 0·9 cm., oblong-ovoid.
    Seeds
    Seeds c. 3 × 3·5 mm., dark brown, angular; testa corrugated.

    Habit
    Weak or subscandent shrub up to 6 m. tall; young branches minutely puberulous, older branches quite glabrous.
    Leaves
    Leaf-lamina 8–11 cm. in diam., ovate to suborbicular, apex rounded, margin crenate, base deeply cordate, 5–7-nerved, densely puberulous above, glaucous-tomentellous beneath, nerves somewhat raised below; petiole up to 11 cm. long, glandular-puberulous or glabrous; stipules c. 1 cm. long, caducous, subulate.
    Flowers
    Flowers pink in axillary, umbelliform, 3–5-flowered cymes; peduncle 2·5–3 cm. long, pubescent with some glandular papilliform hairs; pedicels 1·2–1·5 cm. long, stellate-tomentellous with some simple hairs; bracts up to 9 mm. long, caducous, lanceolate-subulate, tomentellous.
    Calyx
    Calyx-lobes 1·9 × 0·3 cm., lanceolate-acute, tomentellous outside.
    Corolla
    Petals 2·2 × 1·7 cm., obliquely obovate.
    Androecium
    Stamens connate below for 2–3·5 mm.; staminodes 1·2–1·5 cm. long, linear, glabrous.
    Pistil
    Ovary ovoid, tomentose; loculi densely pubescent within; ovules 6 per loculus; style c. 1 cm. long, densely hirsute below, glabrous above; stigmas recurved, sparsely hairy.
    Fruits
    Ripe capsule not yet known.
