    General Description
    Robust, epiphyte with abbreviated to shortly developed stem, internodes to 4cm thick; old cataphylls conspicuous, persistent, up to 15cm long, net-fibrous, coppery-ferrugineous, soft. LEAVES subrosulate, widely-spreading with pendent tips or completely pendent; petiole to 17cm long, 1.4cm thick, much shorter than blade, broadly sulcate on upper surface with angled or narrowly-winged margins, rounded below; leaf blade linear to oblong-elliptic, to 90cm long, 16cm broad, coriaceous, dull dark green on upper surface, paler below, apex acute-acuminate, base obtuse to rounded; midrib rounded on both surfaces; side veins forming inframarginal veins, fine venation obscured on both surfaces in fresh material. INFLORESCENCES pendent in flower and fruit; peduncle to 60cm lolng, 1cm thick, terete; spathe oblong-lanceolate, to 17cm long, 2.5cm broad, green or purplish-green, widely spreading to somewhat reflexed; spadix narrowly conic, to 28cm long, 1.1cm thick, sessile or subsessile; tepals pale- to purplish-brown. INFRUCTESCENCES: Berries broadly oblong to obovate, to 0.6cm long, 0.5cm broad, rounded apically, dull scarlet carmine; seeds oblong, flattened, to 0.4cm long, 0.3cm broad, yellow. This description was made from material cultivated at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, which was originally collected in sterile condition in Bahia ( Storr 62, 172),
