    Habit
    Scandent shrubs or woody twiners with stellate indumentum; cystoliths absent.
    Leaves
    Leaves opposite, entire or crenate.
    Flowers
    Flowers solitary or in fascicles merging into terminal pseudoracemes; bracteoles 2, large, bract-like, coriaceous, connate for 2/3 of their length.
    Calyx
    Calyx an undulate rim or irregularly lobed or toothed.
    Corolla
    Corolla contorted in bud, tube cylindric; limb indistinctly 2-lipped, upper lip 2-fid, lower 3-fid.
    Stamens
    Stamens 4, didynamous, included in tube and inserted near middle, subsessile, sometimes also a staminode present; anthers 2-thecous, hairy or glabrous, thecae oblong-linear, sagittate at base, opening by apical pores.
    Disc
    Disc conspicuous, annular, fleshy.
    Ovary
    Ovary 2-locular, 2 ovules per locule; stigma 2-lobed.
    Fruits
    Fruit a woody thick-walled tardily dehiscent 4-seeded capsule without or with a short poorly defined beak; retinacula absent.
    Seeds
    Seed subglobose with a large scar on one side.
    Note
    6 species.
    Distribution
    Range: The others in Liberia, Gabon (3 species) and Congo.
