    General Description
    Terrestrial herb with rhizomatous stem to 2cm thick creeping in leaf litter, internodes to 1cm long, completely covered with persistent, brown, membranous old cataphylls to 5cm long. LEAVES erect; petiole to 65cm long, 0.6cm thick, sulcate on upper suface with rounded margins, rounded below, dark olive-green, pink-tinged basally when young; leaf blade narrowly oblong to lanceolate, to 45cm long, 13cm broad, dark green and somewhat glossy on upper surface, paler and glossier below, apex acute, base rounded to emarginate; midrib rounded on both surfaces, sometimes red-tinged below, main side veins impressed on upper surface, forming inframarginal veins, strongly prominent below. INFLORESCENCE: Peduncle erect, to 60cm long, 0.4cm thick, terete; spathe oblong-lanceolate, to 10cm long, 2cm broad, spreading widely, brownish- to reddish-green; spadix narrowly conic, to 14cm long, 0.9thick, with basal stipe to 1cm long; tepals buff to pale green.
