    Note
Bredenkamp & Botha (1996) have recorded this South African species as “rare in North-West and Northern Provinces and Gauteng” and considered its range of distribution to extend into southern Zimbabwe.  However, I have not seen material of it from the Flora Zambesiaca area. The status and affinities of V. pooara have been variously treated by different authors: Corbishley (1920) treated it as related to V. isotjensis (= V. payos ) while Palmer & Pitman (1972) as related to V. harveyana , and Coates Palgrave (1983) has merged it with V. mombassaeV. pooara is here considered to be a separate species distinguished by an indumentum of finer shorter hairs which give the leaflets a velvety feel, by leaflets broadly-lanceolate, thin and flexible in texture and very shortly petiolulate, by the few-flowered inflorescences and peduncles and pedicels thinner and more delicate than in V. mombassae and V. payos .  Flower size appears to be intermediate between V. payos and V. harveyana , and much smaller than in V. mombassae .  Also, the apex of the ovary in V. pooara is sparsely pubescent as opposed to lanate in V. mombassae .
