    Habit
    Aromatic erect or scrambling shrub or small tree 1.5–4.5(–5.4) m. tall; bark pale and ridged; young stems ± square, densely yellow or pale brown pubescent, ± glabrous when older.
    Leaves
    Leaves 3-foliolate; leaflets ovate or elliptic, 1.8–10.5 cm. long, 1.3–5.5 cm. wide (the median longest), acute to long-acuminate at the apex, very rarely rounded, cuneate to rounded at the base, the laterals more rounded or subtruncate, entire, crenate or ± toothed, sometimes very slightly bullate, scabrid and ± rugose above, sparsely to densely pubescent beneath particularly on nerves and with dense glands or ± glabrous (particularly in K7); venation raised beneath; petioles 1.3–5(–7) cm. long; petiolules 1–5(–18) mm. long, the lateral leaflets with them short or subsessile.
    Inflorescences
    Inflorescences narrow, 2–12.5 cm. long, pubescent, the lateral cymes mostly short so that panicle appears almost subspicate; young inflorescence with bracts slightly comose at apex, soon falling; main bracts to each cyme purplish, 3 mm. long, 1–1.5 mm. wide.
    Calyx
    Calyx shortly tubular, 1.5–3 mm. long, shortly toothed to distinctly lobed, pubescent and glandular.
    Corolla
    Corolla white, dull yellow or very pale pink; tube 2–2.5 mm. long, glabrous to pubescent-tomentose outside; lobes ovate to ± round, 1.5 mm. long, 1.2–1.5 mm. wide, glandular and tomentose outside at tips, the upper lip distinctly bilobed or not.
    Fruits
    Fruit buff-brown, ovoid to globose, 6 mm. long, glossy, glabrous and not glandular, the wall very thin and easily splitting; endocarp very hard; fruiting calyx ± 7 mm. wide, irregularly lobed.
    Habitat
    Bushland, thickets or rocky outcrops, woodland, forest edges, sometimes riverine; 0–1710 m.
