    Habit
    Perennial. Rhizomes elongated. Culms erect; 140-300 cm long; spongy. Culm-internodes terete. Ligule an eciliate membrane. Leaf-blade base with a false petiole. Leaf-blades lanceolate. Leaf-blade venation slanting obliquely from midrib; with distinct cross veins.

    Inflorescence a panicle. Primary panicle branches whorled at lower nodes.

    Spikelets comprising 1 fertile florets. Spikelets ovate; laterally compressed; 3.5-4.3 mm long; breaking up at maturity; disarticulating below each fertile floret. Spikelet callus attached transversely.
