    Habit
    Rhizome extensive, 5-8 mm. in diameter; scales papery, brown, very sparsely hairy, 6-8 cm. long.
    Shoots
    Leafy shoots 1.5-2.5 m. tall.
    Leaves
    Leaves narrowly obovate to narrowly elliptic, 23-35 × 4-6.5 cm., acuminate, base asymmetrical, cuneate to rounded, glabrous above and beneath; petiole 0.5-1.5 cm. long, glabrous; nerves widely spaced, 5-10 per 5 mm. above, 14-26 per 5 mm. beneath; ligule membranous, delicate, bilobed, subglabrous with a marginal line of ascending hairs, up to 2.5 cm. long; sheaths sulcate.
    Inflorescences
    Inflorescence 4-6-flowered, arising from the base of the leafy shoot, spreading then abruptly ascending; peduncle 4-8 cm. long; lower bracts papery, up to 2.5 cm. long, with brown scarious margins fringed with white hairs near the apex, the upper bracts to 4.5 × 4 cm., papery, brown, with a brown scarious bilobed apical projection to 1.5 cm. long (the ligule of the bract).
    Calyx
    Calyx spathaceous, ± 3.5 cm. long, bilobed at the pubescent apex, minutely puberulous over the whole outer surface.
    Corolla
    Petals pale purple to pale pink, the posterior obovate, concave, 5 × 3 cm., the laterals narrowly triangular, 2.5 × 0.5 cm.
    Labellum
    Labellum ± 8.5 cm. long, the free portion suborbicular, ± 6 cm. in diameter, pale purple to pale pink, yellowish at the base.
    Stamens
    Free filament ligulate, ± 1.7 cm. long; anther subterminal, 10-11 mm. long, the basal 5-7 mm. dehiscent; apex 3-lobed, the apical lobe triangular, 2 mm. long, the lateral lobes narrowly triangular, ascending, up to 4 mm. long.
    Pistil
    Ovary glabrous; style filiform, pubescent towards the apex; stigma trumpet-shaped, densely pubescent outside.
    Fruits
    Fruit and seeds unknown.
    Habitat
    Margins of rain-forest; 800-1000 m.
