    Habit
    Robust twiner to 15 m, latex white.
    Stem
    Stems massively swollen and up to ± 30 cm across towards the base (distinction between stem and basal tuber rapidly obscured with age), semi-succulent with shiny grey or reddish bark, young shoots densely pubescent to tomentose
    Leaves
    Leaves opposite, petiole 0.5–4 cm, densely pubescent; lamina obovate to elliptic or suborbicular, to ± 15 × 8 cm, apex rounded to subacute, base cuneate or rounded, tomentose beneath, at least in younger leaves, adaxial face pubescent.
    Inflorescences
    Inflorescences extra-axillary, forming simple or branched umbelliform clusters of up to ± 30 flowers.
    Peduncles
    Peduncles 5–15(–30) mm long, tomentose.
    Pedicel
    Pedicels 6–13 mm, tomentose or densely pubescent
    Calyx
    Sepals triangular, ± 1 mm long, tomentose or densely pubescent
    Corolla
    Corolla not twisted in bud, ovoid; tube ± 1 mm long; lobes bright green or brown, oblong, 6–10 × ± 2 mm, glabrous to sparsely pubescent.
    Corona
    Corona white, tubular part 2–3 mm long and 1.5–2.5 mm in diameter, urceolate or cylindrical, apical lobes 0.5–2 mm long; lobes from inner whorl of corona filiform, projecting from mouth of tube for ± 1 mm
    Fruits
    Follicles purplish, 10–22 × 1.5–3 cm, broadly fusiform and tapering to a long beak, smooth.
