    Habit
    Plants ± 75 cm. high.
    Corms
    Corms globose, evidently unusually small, ± 1 cm. in diameter, the tunics membranous, light brown.
    Leaves
    Leaves 8, the lower 4 basal and longest, ± 2/3 as long as the stem, and not reaching the base of the spike, the blades sublinear, 3-4 mm. wide, the margins and midribs lightly thickened, the upper 4 leaves inserted on the lower part of the stem, sheathing for at least 1/2 their length.

    Stem erect, unbranched, ± 1.7 mm. in diameter at the base of the spike.
    Inflorescences
    Spike erect, up to 14-flowered; bracts green, the outer 1.4-2.5(-3.5) cm. long, the inner ± 1/2 as long.
    Flowers
    Flowers evidently reddish purple and the tepals without contrasting markings; perianth-tube ± 1.1 cm. long, the lower half straight, the upper half curving outward and becoming horizontal; tepals subequal, narrowly lanceolate and attenuate, ± 33 × 3-3.5 mm., somewhat shorter in dry material, evidently extended forward for most of their length and curving gently outward in the upper third.
    Stamens
    Filaments ± 5 mm. long, entirely included in the tube; anthers ± 9 mm. long, the lower 2-3 mm. included in the tube, with acute apiculate appendages ± 0.6 mm. long.
    Style
    Style dividing 3-4 mm. below the anther-apices, the branches ± 2.3 mm. long.
    Fruits
    Capsules unknown.

    Growing in pockets of soil in weathered sandstone of the Buyenzi escarpment; ± 1250 m.; flowering January and February
